With a doctorate degree in microwave physics, the notion of invisible energies was hardly new to Judyann McNamara, but witnessing live cells communicating over distance was an experience that changed the course of her life. She was referring to the incident that had set her on a search, a search that eventually led her to homeopathy.

As a physicist she had enjoyed working on a variety of research projects ranging from conducting tests on the tiles used on the Space Shuttle to studying the crystalline structure of the casing on the AIDS virus. While working on a project where her job was
to measure the exchange of light photons between two test tubes of blood taken from the same person that "the penny dropped." Placed in close proximity to each other, there was an observable exchange of photons from one sample to the other. When a lead sheet was placed between the blood samples, each continued to emit light photons but when none were received the emissions stopped. Removing the lead barrier would cause the exchange  to start again. There was an actual communication taking place!  These cells were aware of each other, at some level cognizant of their communication and its interruption and then later sensing renewed opportunity to communicate with each other, they started to do so.

" I realized there was a whole other level of organization!" Similarly, when healthy cells "communicate" with cancer cells there's no response. "Cancer cells act as if they are on their own, and don't communicate... The DNA gets modified and then doesn't communicate with the body anymore." And again, the healthy cells stop their attempts at communication.

"What typifies a tumor is that it isn't communicating with the rest of the body. It's as if it's an organism on its own, doing what it wants to do. It's not co-operating with the body. It's not going at the same speed as the rest of the body. And its DNA has been modified, so it's not really part of the body anymore." The cancer cells are out of touch with the healthy cells of the body. For Judyann McNamara, the world of subtle energy and approaches to energy medicine became her quest. "I wanted to really understand how we could work with this really subtle energy." 

Her search for a model of energy medicine that incorporated science, holism and energy led her to study ayurvedic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, the chakra model and subtle energies, osteopathy, as well as introductory homeopathy. Then in 1990 she attended a two week seminar given by well known homeopath Rajan Sankarin at the Esalen Institute. The experience very much impressed her. Sankarin presented case studies with video documentation of patients before, during, and after. The changes these patients were benefiting from because of homeopathic treatment were proof that there was healing at a deep level.

"I liked the science behind it and, also, I liked the quantum aspect to it - the energetic aspect of it. I like the fullness, the wholeness and that it's multi-dimensional and not just physical. There is a level beyond the physical that is the root of the mental, emotional and physical. The whole being" She could see that homeopathy "used properly can address the deepest, most fundamental level of vital organization that we know." Homeopathy matched what she had been looking for; a medicine that treats at the level of energy dynamics. The Newtonian model of physics was too small to explain the principles at work in homeopathic treatment, yet quantum physics is very accepting of the reality of homeopathy and its energetic interaction within the field of the treated individual.

Judyann devoted herself to both the learning and practice of homeopathy.  She completed her formal training in homeopathy studying under the guidance of a former student of Pierre Shmidt, a classical homeopath. She attended endless seminars and workshops, exposing herself to all schools of homeopathy. Eventually she was giving courses at a Naturopathic school and was encouraged by students and colleagues to open a school of homeopathy. In 2006 she opened The Montreal Institute of Classical Homeopathy. The Institute's teachings are based upon the principles of energetic healing as afforded by homeopathy. Over a three year period course participants develop a foundation in the study of homeopathy. Under her stewardship, the institute teaches a classical approach that incorporates all that modern science and various medical models have to offer.

Judyann's view of comprehensive health care is inclusive. She sees a complimentary system where three major components are considered:
1) Naturopathy as a means of tending to the body and its processes through diet, supplement, herbs, compresses, exercise and breathing.
2) The use of similars as practiced by homeopathy to treat at the energetic level.
3) In an emergency, or when all else fails, allopathic medicine with its surgeries and antibiotics.

The acceptance of homeopathy is obstructed mainly by dualist thinking (right/wrong) and narrow mindedness. Understanding the sensations and bringing the client to the deepest level of her or himself  is integral to case taking and there can be no form of judgment within this context. Judyann practices and teaches by these tenets. As she says, "I prescribe from 3X to 50M." It depends on the client.

 Like the world that so fascinates her, Judyann McNamara has a dynamic energy that is alive and vital as she speaks of her love of homeopathy. She left one profession where she was at the leading edge of research and has established herself anew at the learning edge of energy medicine. She is a dedicated homeopath with a rich background and a unique perspective. Her passion for the subject draws a person in as she speaks, as she communicates. I'm reminded of healthy cells and photon emissions.
